A Hot Reservoir Heat Exchanger is an integrated thermal system that combines a large-capacity storage tank (the reservoir) with
one or more internal heat exchangers. Its primary function is to store a significant volume of heated fluid (typically water or a
thermal oil) and efficiently transfer that thermal energy to a separate, independent fluid circuit without the two fluids mixing.Primary Uses and Applications
This system is versatile and is used in scenarios where there is a mismatch between heat supply and demand, or where clean
separation of fluids is critical.
1. Domestic Hot Water (DHW) Preparation: The most common use. The reservoir stores water heated by a boiler or solar thermal
system. A separate cold water circuit flows through the heat exchanger, instantly getting heated for showers, sinks, and
appliances without depleting the stored water. This prevents legionella growth and limescale in the primary circuit.
2. Solar Thermal Energy Storage: Stores heat collected by solar panels during the day. The heat exchanger transfers this solar
energy to the water in the tank, making it available for use at night or on cloudy days.

1. High Efficiency and Energy Savings: By acting as a thermal buffer, it allows primary heating systems to operate at their most efficient rates for longer periods, reducing cycling and fuel consumption. It effectively captures and stores otherwise wasted energy.
 2. Simultaneous Multiple Functions: A single reservoir can support multiple applications at once. For example, one heat exchanger can be charged by a solar panel while another is discharging heat to provide domestic hot water and a third is feeding a central heating system.
 3. Excellent Hydraulic Separation: The primary (stored) fluid and the secondary (application) fluid are completely separate.  4. Maintenance of Water Quality (for DHW): In domestic hot water systems, the potable water is heated indirectly as it passes through the exchanger.
